Oklahoma City police arrested a 23-year-old woman in connection with a shootout Wednesday which killed her younger brother and another man.
Officers booked Elizette Ferreira into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on one complaint of first-degree murder.
Police responded just before 7 p.m. to the Arden Park Apartments on West Hefner near Western Avenue.
One resident said he did not think twice when he heard gunshots. He said gun violence is a normal occurrence in the area.
“I usually hear it over there,” said Nasir Moss, a resident of the complex.
Moss heard screaming and at first thought children were playing with fireworks.
“I hear one gunshot go off and then it pauses, and then I hear five more shots,” said Moss.
What Moss actually heard was an argument that escalated into a deadly shootout, police said.
“Through the course of their investigation, it was learned that there were several subjects involved in this, two of which were brother and sister,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, Oklahoma City Police Department.
When officers arrived at the complex, they found 20-year-old Eddie Ferreira shot to death inside an apartment and 26-year-old Alex Garcia dead on a sidewalk as he tried to escape the gunfire.
Police said one of the accused shooters was still at the scene. Officers took Ferreira into custody.
“The sister to one of our victims was ultimately arrested on one complaint of murder in the first degree,” said Quirk.
Investigators are still in the process of piecing everything together and have more people to speak with about the deadly double shooting.
