Jenks Public Schools students are the latest to head back to classes in person on Wednesday morning. There are ten schools in the district with most students expected to attend classes, as usual, this semester.

Jenks is one of many large Green Country school districts heading back on Wednesday, including Union and Broken Arrow.

Jenks administration told News On 6 that it is strongly encouraging the use of masks on all campuses as COVID-19 Delta variant numbers continue rising among children.

Parents have the option of virtual learning for their children if they choose, but JPS said its virtual enrollment numbers are significantly lower this semester than they were last fall. A parent can choose to have their child’s learning experience be virtual or in-person at any time during the year.

JSP Communications Director Rob Loaber said if COVID numbers were to spike within the district, they could temporarily move to distance learning, but will only do so if they absolutely have to since kids learn best face to face.

“I think that’s what our teachers live for I think they are really excited about having a fresh start with a new group of kids and leading them to where they need to be by the end of the year,” said Loaber.

He said all sports and extracurricular activities are set to return as normal this school year but they will make adjustments if needed.
