Rise In COVID-19 Cases Impacting Travel

A recent survey by CBS shows more people are canceling their upcoming trips because of rising COVID cases.

Tami French said she has almost 900 dollars in credit she can use at Southwest Airlines. However, she believes it’s best to wait.

"My concern about traveling far from home is what if I or my family gets sick, and we are far from home,” Broken Arrow resident, Tami French said.

French says traveling is what she loves to do.

"One of my favorite things, I save my money,” French said.

But for now, she says she's staying home because of rising COVID cases. French says her plans to visit friends in Oregon have been canceled twice.

“We rescheduled for August because we thought after summer that things would be better. I haven't rebooked that trip,” French said.

A recent CBS survey shows 27% of travelers say they've postponed a trip and more than 54% said the Delta variant has made them less likely to travel now.

AAA travel agent, Shankia Floyd recommends people purchase travel insurance so if they do cancel, they'll get a refund. However, she says the chance of a refund depends on why you're canceling your trip.

"For medical, death in the family, birth in the family, something like that. This would typically be covered reasons,” Floyd said.

Floyd says without insurance, cancellations typically result in a credit.

"I like to be optimistic that things turn around in a month or so, but it just seems that every day is getting worse,” French said.

French says her anniversary is in October and would like to fly somewhere. However, she says that probably won't happen.
