Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant John Harris passed away after a battle with COVID-19, the sheriff’s office said.

The Sheriff’s office said 43-year-old Harris had been hospitalized since late July. They said he joined the department in 2009 and earned the “Life Saving Award” in 2019 for saving a baby girl who had fallen from a moving vehicle.

Harris was the sergeant over the Officer Assistance Program, which he helped establish. The program served law enforcement agencies statewide with counseling and mental health services.

The sheriff’s office said he leaves behind a wife and four children.

Funeral services have not yet been announced.
