Western Heights Interim Superintendent Monty Guthrie sent a letter to families and staff Monday stating a mask requirement would go into effect Tuesday.

In the letter Guthrie said students, staff and visitors will be required to wear a mask that covers the face and nose while on school property, in school vehicles, and at school sponsored events regardless of vaccination status.

The district said the requirement is to help keep students and staff safe amid the pandemic and the growing number of delta variant cases.

The letter said in part:

“Our students learn better when they are in the classroom. If we all come together to do everything we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we will have a more successful school year. If you can, please wear a mask and get vaccinated if you are eligible.”

Exemption requests must be submitted in writing by a parent or guardian.
