Summer is a busy time of the year at Tulsa Animal Welfare. Staff members said its ‘Clear The Shelter’ event is a great way to help animals.
From now until Sept. 19, Tulsa Animal Welfare director of operations Kristin Barney said people will be able to adopt any cats or dogs at the shelter for free.
“That includes the cost of the surgery,” Barney said. “They will be vaccinated and also with a microchip.”
That way, folks can have more money to buy the materials they need to take one of these pets home.
All you need to do is fill out an adoption application when you arrive at the shelter.
Barney said folks will also be able to spend time with a dog or cat to find out if they are a good match.
“(It) benefits them but it also benefits the people, having the pet in your life is really a great benefit for our health, mental health, and so, we really want people to experience that human-animal bond,” Barney said.
“It is also very important to find a good match,” volunteer Karen Curtis said.
Curtis believes it won’t be hard for families to fall in love.
“You want to them to go with a family with kids. Something they can enjoy,” Curtis said.
The shelter plans to have additional staff during the weekends to help with adoptions.
