A young Oklahoma City mother is in jail. She’s accused of threatening to kill her baby after running off with her.
While an Amber Alert was issued early Thursday, her family said she was only trying to protect her daughter from the child's father.
Midaysia Highwalker's family and friends said this entire situation could've been prevented.
They said the couple have been in a toxic relationship for years, and it's unfortunate that there's a 3-month-old baby in the middle of it.
Highwalker, 20, is facing several charges after an Amber Alert was issued for her missing baby girl.
According to the arrest warrant, things turned violent when the father, Tristian Rivera, tried to remove their daughter from Highwalker's apartment. Rivera’s mother was also present.
According the warrant, she witnessed Highwalker "grab a black carjack from the front of the residence and forcefully struck Tristan (the father) in the back of his head."
“The scars, they're trying to say he got hit with a tire jack. That is not true. There was no tire jack folks,” Denasja Richardson said.
Richardson said she was there with several others when this all unfolded.
Richardson said Rivera approached Highwalker several times at her home. The two argued most of the night and he got into a fight with one of Highwalker's guests.
“They been together since they were kids, almost middle school. This is just really the lowest I've ever seen them,” Richardson said.
Richardson said the real victim is the child.
“It's sad that every time she puts the baby to sleep, she has to worry about arguing with her baby daddy. It's sad that a baby has to be around hostile energy at three months,” Richardson said.
Officers found Highwalker at Richardson's home. Highwalker is still in the Oklahoma County jail, and her stepmother is keeping her baby, who was not injured.
