Business owners and residents in Norman spent most of Monday on cleanup duty after Sunday's storms. That system left behind it a trail of broken windows and windshields on the east side of town.
The people there said the storm sounded like bombs going off as bigger than golf ball size hail ripped through siding and glass.
“Our bedroom is full of glass. We had hail all over,” said Norman resident Sierra Lance.
Sierra and her family hid in a closet while hail from the storm pelted their mobile home.
“It sounded like a loud popping,” said Jenny Lance.
“My husband was at our window, and he heard cracking at first and it shattered.” added Sierra.
That window was Sierra's bedroom. Now she and her husband have to sleep on the living room floor.
The family's cars have shattered windshields, dents from hail and one car may even be totaled. Even the kid's bikes were damaged.
“My speedometer and my chain guard came off,” said Sierra’s son.
Just about one mile away the Donate a Miracle thrift store is dealing with the damage on an even bigger scale.
“All the clothes, all the toys, all the shoes. Everything. Our dumpster’s full,” said owner Lyz Farrah. “I can’t take a chance on somebody getting a sliver of class putting on a blouse or try on a shoe and there be a little piece of glass.”
She said the store lost about $10,000 worth the merchandise. More will come in she said, but for anyone in need right now pickings are slim.
“I don’t have one single pair of shoes. Not one single pair. Everything is gone. There were slivers of glass in everything,” said Farrar.
Farrar said the biggest issue right now is the man power for cleaning up and to put the non-damaged items on the floor.
