Police are searching for two shooting suspects witnesses saw leave a southwest Oklahoma City apartment complex on Wednesday where a man in a wheelchair was shot and killed.

Investigators identified the victim as 48-year-old Anthony Bronner. His neighbors and friends said the shooters killed a defenseless man.

“He was a really good guy,” said Kenneth Gaffney, victim’s friend. “Quiet, never saw too many people go to his house.”

However, two people were seen leaving Bronner's first floor apartment around 5 p.m. Wednesday. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots and saw a truck speed away.

“Black four door Ford truck,” said Gaffney. “Looked fairly new because it was shiny.”

Officers were called to the complex near Southwest 59th Street and South May Avenue and quickly determined it would be a homicide investigation. Bronner was reportedly shot and killed while sitting in his wheelchair.

“When officers arrived, they located our victim deceased inside his apartment with several gunshot wounds,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Gaffney said he could not imagine why someone would want to harm him.

“Tells you where we’re at in America when defenseless people are being killed like that,” said Gaffney. “I mean what’s next?”

Gaffney said the shooting happened in broad daylight while several residents were outside.

“And you do something like that and then walk out like it wasn’t nothing,” said Gaffney.

Investigators spent hours at the scene and spoke to witnesses to gather information about possible suspects.

“Right now, the investigation is really early,” said Quirk. “We have not discovered a motive at this time. Still digging into what exactly occurred.”

Residents remained hopeful investigators will catch the perpetrators soon.

“It may take them a little while but eventually they’ll be knocking on your door,” said Gaffney.
