COVID-19 Cases In Oklahoma Trending Downward, Health Experts Say

Health experts said the number of new COVID-19 cases in Oklahoma continues to trend down.

Oklahoma’s seven-day rolling average for new cases is below 1,000.

Dr. Dale Bratzler, the Chief COVID-19 officer for OU-Health said Oklahoma ranks 28th in the nation for new cases.

He said the average is now down to 957 new cases per day.

Dr. Dale Bratzler said hospitalizations have gone down as well, but a third of those hospitalized are in the ICU.

He said most of Oklahoma remains in the “red” on the community transmission map so masks are still recommended when indoors at public places.

He added that while cases are going down, future outbreaks among people who are unvaccinated are still likely.

For the vaccinated, booster vaccines are recommended for those 65 and older and people ages 18 to 64 with underlying health conditions.

Dr. Bratzler said anyone who received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine should get a booster at least two months after their dose.

The FDA and CDC did approve the mix and match of booster vaccines with Pfizer and Moderna.
