After a two-day manhunt, investigators shot a convicted killer who they say escaped jail last week.
The Johnston County Sheriff Gary Dodd said Baumgardner got out of his cell by breaking through a wall at the jail in Tishomingo on Wednesday.
Authorities tracked Shawn Baumgardner to Marshall County near the Oklahoma-Texas border.
"He almost hit several deputies and a sheriff who were standing on the roadway before the pursuit was even initiated, after that time, he almost hit several vehicles head-on," said Dodd.
Baumgardner recently pleaded guilty to killing someone in a crash.
The last update from the sheriff said the inmate is in the hospital, in unknown condition.
