An Edmond man is dead after his home ignited in flames early this morning. It happened near Kelley and West 15th just before 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
"We did see lots of flames coming from the roof," said Chris Denton, Edmond Deputy Fire Chief. "At one point they were 30 feet in the air above the roof."
As firefighters got to the scene, they immediately began searching the inside of the home. As they went through the front door, they found a man.
"They pulled him out, began CPR on him," said Denton.
Officials say the man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
"They knew there was going to be the potential of some victims being inside there," said Denton. "They did a great job locating this victim, unfortunately, it was just too late."
Neighbors were left in shock, some saying it looked like a wall of smoke outside.
The home suffered major damage, as parts of the roof even collapsed. Firefighters are still investigating how this all started.
"Just to try and make that determination as to what did cause this fire and that's where we're at right now," Denton said.
It took firefighters around an hour in a half to completely put out the flames. The fire was contained before any of the other homes were affected.
Denton says other people do live in the home, but they weren't there when the fire ignited.
The man who passed away has not been identified yet.
