Investigation Begins After Woman Dies In House Fire Near Yukon

Oklahoma City fire investigators are working to trace what started a deadly house fire early Tuesday. 

It's among the questions on the minds of people living near what's left of the home.

"It's sad," said Brian Evans, a neighbor. "It's rough to see that kind of stuff in this area."

Several neighbors are left in shock after a home caught on fire overnight. Firefighters were called to the scene around 3:45 a.m. and tried knocking down the flames.

"Our crews did report there was already heavy fire coming from the home," said Oklahoma City Fire Department Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson. "It was already venting from the windows."

Portions of the roof had collapsed into the home. However, several firefighters started searching for anybody inside. They eventually found a woman.

"They located her near or in the secondary bathroom of the home and again the firefighters then removed her from the window of the secondary bedroom, which was just adjacent to that bathroom," Fulkerson said.

She was taken to a local hospital but she later died.

"It's just crazy, because to see the house that damaged and bad and to hear somebody passed away is horrible," said Evans.

Another couple said one of their neighbors came over to wake them up in case the flames spread. Firefighters said no one else was found inside the home and they're still investigating into what exactly caused the fire.

"Anytime that we have a fatality incident at a fire scene, we do a joint investigation with the Oklahoma City Police Department Homicide Unit," Fulkerson said.

Firefighters also mentioned they did hear smoke alarms on scene. Damages are estimated at $172,000. No one else was hurt and no other homes were damaged.

Fire officials said the woman who died has not been identified yet.
