A teenager is behind bars after he was accused of fatally shooting a 14-year-old in Guthrie.
Guthrie police said a 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody.
Investigators are requesting the suspect be charged with first-degree murder. His identity has not been released.
Antwoine Watson Jr. was identified as the teen who was killed.
Police said the shooting happened at the 1300 block of East Grant. However, a family member taking Watson to the hospital when they flagged down an ambulance in the 500 block of Noble.
Watson was shot multiple times.
“Our investigators along with the Oklahoma state Bureau of investigation, Logan County Sheriff Department, Logan County DA’s office and even our public works are very relieved along with the family to effect an arrest earlier today,” said Guthrie police Sgt. Anthony Gibbs.
Investigators spent a portion of Tuesday searching the crime scene and were able to recover the alleged murder weapon.
“That evidence along with everything else they collected up to this point they felt confident with going ahead and making an arrest,” said Gibbs.
A search warrant served early Monday morning also helped investigators pinpoint a suspect, the only one thought to be responsible.
“There was some sort of disagreement between the two,” said Gibbs. “We don’t believe at all that it was an accident, but there was an altercation between those two parties and a shooting ensured as a result of that altercation.”
Investigators are working to figure out how the suspect got a gun to begin with as family of Watson are now left raising money for a proper goodbye.
“The society that we live in today, somebody sometimes just makes choices that are well outside of societal norms,” said Gibbs.
It’ll be up to the Logan County district attorney to determine if the 15-year-old suspect will be charged as an adult.
Watson was formerly a student at Coyle Public Schools and was enrolled with EPIC Charter Schools most recently.
