Oklahoma City Public Schools' PODs are in partnership with IMMY Labs and the Oklahoma City-County Health Department. Vaccines will be available for kids ages 5 and older.
"Our desire is for kids to be in class in-person, all the time," said Brad Herzer, OKCPS assistant superintendent of human resources, safety and security.
With the ability to get kids as young as 5 vaccinated, Herzer said he hopes it keeps kids in the classroom.
"If you are a fully vaccinated student and you are identified as a close contact, you don't have to quarantine. but if you're unvaccinated and you are a close contact, we are requiring you to quarantine," said Herzer.
Each POD will have around 250 appointments.
"Parents are required to be there with their child since they are a minor," said Herzer.
Herzer said PODs are geared toward their 5- to 11-year-old students.
But family members are also able to make an appointment at their new evening clinics to get their vaccine, too.
"We tried to make it easier too for the elementary aged students, so a parent can pick their student up at the end of the day and immediately go get a vaccination, so they aren't having to come back up," he said.
As of now, there at 14 PODs scheduled across the district.
"If we don't have it available at your location right now, we will have more PODs available after the Thanksgiving break," said Herzer.
