Health Leaders To Provide Update On COVID-19 In Oklahoma As Holidays Begin

State health leaders are expected to provide an update on Oklahoma's fight against COVID-19. Doctors are worried about cases spiking heading into the holidays.

The CDC initially predicted a decline in cases in the month of November, but for the past two weeks across the country and here in Oklahoma it's become the opposite.

Oklahoma's new seven-day average is sitting at 831 new cases per day, that's a jump of nearly 300 cases per day compared to two weeks ago when the average was 561.

In Oklahoma County, cases are holding steady after a slight jump that started at the beginning of this month.

Hospitalizations are seeing a slight uptick as well, this has doctors worried we'll see an increase in the upcoming months, especially during the holiday season.

To help avoid the spread of COVID, local doctors suggest getting a booster shot if you can, it's now available for all adults.

"Those factors of mitigation strategies, like if we get vaccinated, if we get boosters, if we continue to mask, those will make the peak lower," said Wendelboe.

Doctors also suggest getting tested for the virus if people don't feel well. They also say it's smart to get tested before Thanksgiving gatherings.
