A group from Surfside, Florida learned of the destruction in Kentucky and knew how important a central place to mourn would be for the community.
"I went to a specific florist, and I asked her, ‘What do you think it is about flowers that is so comforting to grieving families?’ And I'll never forget what she told me. She said, ‘It’s because a flower is a symbol of life exemplified.’ So, them seeing their loved ones, surrounded by flowers essentially is them seeing their loved ones surrounded by life,” said Leo Soto, Wall of Hope Foundation founder.
Biden wanted to hear from people in Kentucky himself and offer comfort and support.
"There may be things available that will be helpful six weeks, six months from now that you're unaware of so I've instructed my team to make you all aware of everything that is available at a federal level,” President Biden said in a press briefing at Graves County airport.
Kentucky's first lady walked with President Biden and acknowledged the difficulties ahead.
"This is not something that is going to end in weeks or months, it's going to take years,” said First Lady Britainy Beshear.
The death toll still stands at 74. The missing persons list has about 100 people who are still unaccounted for on it.
