Landon Klupenger is like every other 11-year-old boy, all smiles, and looking forward to a bright future.

However, unlike other 11-year-old boys, the scar on the side of his head shows he's been through more than most of us would ever know. Landon has epilepsy and has dealt with medical issues since he was 4.

Since then, his parents have been looking for ways to make him feel better- unfortunately to no success.

"It was a long journey from then, trying to figure out what medications he needs to be on. He's been on four or five and nothing worked so far," said Amanda Klupenger, Landon's mom.

That is until this year when Landon's mom Amanda heard two words that at first scared her: brain surgery

"You never want to think of your child being opened up and operated on," said Amanda.

But then she met Dr. Virendra Desai, who would be Landon's neurosurgeon. He explained the process they would go through to make Landon start feeling better, and possibly stop having seizures

"We were able to map out the important part and say, 'well we can't touch this part of the brain, but we can take out everything else.' And that is what we did," said Desai.

After an intense surgery, Landon's procedure was a success and he's now 4 months without a single seizure.

"I was like, I can't believe it, I am going to have no more seizures and then I started crying," said Landon.

For Landon, his future is bright he'll now be able to do things as he gets older like drive a car. For his mom, he is also able to be something a little different: be an inspiration to others.
