The Tulsa County Board of Elections is gearing up for another election season, this year with more special COVID-19 precautions.
Gwen Freeman with the TCBE says they are reverting to their 2020 voting measures in order to help people safely vote while COVID-19 cases are back up again.
The first election of the year is the Tulsa County Board of Education primary election that falls on February 8. The deadline to register for those is on Friday, January 14, and you can request an absentee ballot until January 24.
There are multiple other elections happening through November. You can find the schedule for those by Clicking Here.
This year, all poll workers will be asked to wear a mask during their shift and the voting booths will be spaced six feet apart. Due to fewer people allowed in the precincts and in the board of elections building, the board of elections is asking everyone to be patient as they vote.
“We ask that they wear a mask when they come in to vote in person,” Freeman said. “It’s not a mandate, nor can we mandate it, but we ask they be conscientious of those around them and I think it’s for the safety of our staff and voters.”
Freeman says they are seeing more voters than ever before and are in desperate need of poll workers, especially with the bigger elections in the fall, and would love to have people sign up for their team. If you are interested in the paid position, you can visit their building on Denver Ave. in downtown Tulsa.
“We have seen a surge in voter registration somewhat over the last year or two and of course, I think as people begin to look at the importance of voting they are becoming engaged more so than they used to be,” Freeman said.
