The City of Oklahoma City released its first draft of the city's ward redistricting map.
Redistricting is required by federal law and city charter after the release of the U.S. Census every 10 years to ensure all wards have about the same number of people, the city said.
The population of Oklahoma City grew from 579,999 in 2010 to 681,054 in 2020, according to the 2020 Census.
Higher growth rates on the north and west sides (wards 1, 3 and 8) prompted the redistricting of the city's eight wards.
