State education leaders are in disagreement following a tweet from the Secretary of Education Ryan Walters.
It claimed that administrators are acting out of fear and not in the best interest of the students.
While the comment drew outrage from some teachers, Walters said he is unapologetic.
The secretary, who is running for the position of State superintendent, said he felt it was important to send a message to school leaders.
The message was urging them to exhaust all options to keep schools open.
Current State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister disagreed, and stated districts have done all they can.
She insists substitutes are already being paid more and districts are working to find volunteers.
Instead, she placed the blame with the state's highest office.
Hofmeister is challenging Governor Stitt as a democrat in the 2022 election.
