According to the latest state epidemiology report, Oklahoma saw a nearly 50 percent increase in new COVID cases last week compared to the week before.
The report shows from Jan. 9-15, Oklahoma saw more than 71,000 new cases and 132 deaths related to COVID.
The state also said more than 35 thousand people recovered from the virus last week, a more than 200 percent increase from the week before.
Currently, the seven-day rolling average in the state is now more than 11 thousand new cases a day, the most ever seen.
Dr. Dale Bratzler with OU Health said the state is seeing the high rates of Omicron that first hit the coastal states start to move into the center of the country, and spread across Oklahoma.
Bratzler encourages everyone to get vaccinated and boosted if they can.
According to the latest state report, 4.4 million doses of the vaccine have been administered statewide.
1.8 million people across the state are considered fully vaccinated.
