Stillwater police officers arrested one man after a chase that resulted in 11 different crashes throughout the city.
Lt. Kyle Bruce said Carlos Lopez fled from police during a traffic stop around 12:30 pm Wednesday. The officer stopped Lopez after he was seen leaving a known drug house in Stillwater.
“We had 11 cars total hit during the pursuit. Seven civilian vehicles on the roadway and there were four of our police vehicles,” Bruce said. “It went from one corner to another in our city.”
One unnamed officer used his vehicle to hit the suspect’s vehicle, a truck owned by a local construction business. Bruce said the officer was treated at Stillwater Medical Center for minor injuries.
Lopez and the passenger in the truck ran on foot after stopping in a parking lot near 6th Ave. and Perkins Rd. and continuing the chase on foot.
“They were trying to run against a chain link fence. The chain link fence won. And they were both apprehended at that point in time and taken into custody,” Bruce said.
The passenger was released after “it was determined the passenger was not involved in the driver’s actions,” Bruce said.
The individuals hit during the police chase suffered minor injuries and declined medical care.
Officers arrested Lopez on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and eluding police. Bruce said in a statement that Lopez has felony warrants out of Osage County, Oklahoma and Ochiltree County, Texas.
