Officer Injured In Altercation During Downtown Tulsa Protest

Tulsa police arrest two people for injuring an officer after a protest outside the federal courthouse turned violent.

Witnesses said they were peacefully protesting in honor of Leonard Peltier, who they think was wrongfully convicted back in the 1970s.

A Tulsa police officer told them to move.

Video from protestors appears to show a fight, which ended in an officer on the ground.

Police said the officer was trying create distance between himself and the protestors.

Police said the protestors were blocking the road and needed to move their cars, but a fight started and the officer ended up on the ground.

Police then pepper sprayed the demonstrators and said the injured officer may have torn his ACL.

Demonstrators said police had been fine all day with where they were parked and the officer started agitating them.

"He pulls up, parks, and starts agitating," said witness Soulowla Williams, "And it was on hundreds of cameras. The officer took a swing to one of the protestors, one of the demonstrators and it escalated from there."

"Two of the three started throwing punches and kicks," said Capt. Richard Meulenberg. "Another couple were rushing him, and at that time we did see some evidence there were people that tried to stop the aggression."

Two people were arrested for assault and battery and the protest ended peacefully.

Police are asking for anyone with video to turn it over to them.

The FBI is involved due to the Supreme Court ruling on tribal jurisdiction.
