Muskogee Mayor Marlon Coleman begins his second term after winning Tuesday night's reelection in a landslide.
Coleman received more than 85-percent of the vote.
He said the huge margins in the election tell him that many people in Muskogee like the projects he's started. With a new term, he'll be able to see many more through.
Coleman made history in both of his mayoral elections.
“2020, first black mayor, and the 50th mayor. 2022, 85.4-percent. Those are two historical moments that I don’t take for granted," he said.
Since 2020, he's helped set in motion projects to fix roads and parks - and bring in business.
“People feel the sense of synergy that we are moving towards being a complete live, work and play community. And my goal over the next term is to be certain that we keep moving in that direction," Coleman said.
He recently announced business expansions will bring hundreds of jobs to Muskogee.
“Over three years, over $1.2 billion in industrial investment. In jobs, land, infrastructure. That’s huge for us. And that says to people who live here, we’re growing. And that says to people who are considering us, we need to be in Muskogee," he said.
Beyond growing big and small business, Mayor Coleman said representation and equality in Muskogee are his top priorities.
“As their highest elected official, my primary responsibility at the end of the day is to be certain that I have represented everybody as everybody’s mayor and that everybody has the chance to be great right here in Muskogee USA," he said.
