The final group of Afghan refugees coming to Green Country is in Tulsa. Volunteers with Catholic Charities of Eastern Oklahoma welcomed them at the airport on February 18.

The volunteers and refugees coming off their flight were all smiles - relieved to finally be done with travel - and eager to head to their new home.

Volunteers had snacks and translators ready to make the handful of Afghan refugees feel welcome.

Catholic Charities believes this is the last group of refugees escaping the Taliban in Afghanistan to come to Tulsa.

Joseph Tata has been volunteering and translating since the first group arrived. He said the welcome parties at the airport always end the long journey on a good note.

"There's always a welcome party for them and it just amazed them that so many people come in here for them to welcome them to Tulsa," he said.

Tata said the biggest thing we can do to help these new Tulsans is to be good neighbors. He said that means simple things like saying hello when we see them - and offering help when they need it.
