The Bixby Police Department is now accepting applications for its next Junior Police Academy planned for this summer. Organizers say the program is open to anyone in the 14 to 18 age range who is interested in a future law enforcement career, or just in the day-to-day operations.
Officer Seth Adcock with the Bixby Police Department says participants will get lessons in the daily routine of officers, firearm safety and even a demo from the fire department. There will also be a ropes course designed to build teamwork.
Officer Adcock says the department is always looking for ways to engage with the community and this is one way they’re able to bridge the gap with the city’s youth.
“This is just an eye-opener for them to understand the day-ins and day-outs of it,” said Officer Adcock. “A lot of people think it’s just high-speed car chases and chase bad guys, but there’s a lot more to it than that.”
Applications will be accepted until April 1st and can be found online by Clicking Here.
The academy is scheduled for June 6th to 11th.
