Update: Trooper Foster with the OHP has clarified that the car was not making a u-turn while it was hit. This story has been updated to reflect that. The investigation is still ongoing.
A small town is devastated after six high school girls were killed in a crash in Tishomingo. Support is pouring in from across Oklahoma.
There are no words to describe the weight of the loss. The crash happened around 12:30pm on Tuesday, March 22.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the car was hit by a semi truck in the intersection between US 377 and Oklahoma 22. Troopers said the car was hit in the intersection while attempting to make a turn.
Tishomingo Public Schools Superintendent Bobby Waitman issued a statement a few hours after the wreck, saying "The district has suffered a great loss today involving high school students. Our hearts are broken and we are grieving with our students and staff." The school will have counselors available for students.
Governor Kevin Stitt said his heart is broken for the families and is also offering his support to the district.
OHP is investigating the crash and will release more details once its report is complete.
