Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief Helping Clean Up After Kingston Tornado

Oklahomans are still cleaning up after an EF2 tornado ripped through the Kingston area Monday night. One of the groups on the ground helping is Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief.

Group leaders say they've been on the ground in Kingston since the tornado came through Monday night and they plan to stay for as long as they are needed.

Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief travels all over the country when natural disasters strike. They say this time, it is different because the devastation is right in their own backyard.

The group has had 50 people on the ground in Kingston and surrounding areas every day this week. This first round of people will stay through tomorrow and then a new group will arrive in Kingston on Saturday.

State Director Don Williams said they go where God tells them and being there is helping in the best way they know how.

“This is how we show love to the community when we go and extend our offering to them, to walk alongside them, and help them through this hard time,” Williams said.

He tells said they have three chainsaw teams cutting down trees and cleaning up yards, while others are going around and asking people what they need.

“What amazes me about Oklahoma is the people the people are out working themselves alongside us so things are getting done very quickly,” Williams said.

Williams said everything they do is made possible by donations.
