Tulsa Police are investigating what they believe to be a homicide.
Police said they found a woman dead in her apartment at Avondale Apartments around 2 p.m. on Saturday.
They said when they walked in and saw her condition, it was easy to tell this was likely a homicide.
“A lot of times we walk into a death investigation, but it turns out to be natural causes, but when we walked in there, we saw signs that it was not consistent with a natural cause death,” said Sergeant Brian Liang.
Officers said this all began as a welfare check.
Police said concerned family members called officers to check on the woman several times.
Officers said they could never enter the apartment until Saturday when apartment maintenance unlocked the door.
Police said the woman was found under several blankets, making them suspect foul play.
Investigators said they were unsure how long she was dead.
The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
Officers are investigating now investigating this death.
Investigators were on the scene talking to several neighbors who may have heard and seen something.
News On 6 spoke to Cara Johnson, who said she was close with the woman.
She said they went to church together and were more than neighbors.
Johnson said they were like family because the woman was a mom to her and a grandmother to her kids.
She said today was a nightmare.
But she wants everyone to remember her friend for who she was.
“She’s just beautiful. Her smile is beautiful. She’s just a great person all around. So, I just, you know I’m a loss,” said Johnson.
Police have not released the woman’s name.
There’s been no arrest made yet, but officers say there’s one person of interest.
