Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy is talking with parents about how they can talk to their kids about the war in Ukraine. Organizers tell News On 6 there was also an opportunity for parents to do Something Good for Ukrainian refugees.

Our kids have access to all kinds of information from the pandemic to the war in Ukraine. Child specialists gathered on Monday to help parents navigate talking to their kids about some of these issues without scaring them. During the panel discussion, people heard from a woman who lived in a country bordering Ukraine and came back to the U.S., where she was born, with her girls when the war started. Parents could also listen to a veteran war correspondent and counselor who specializes in Adverse Childhood Experiences. These professionals talked about how to put the conflict in perspective for kids so they understand how they can help and who is in Ukraine helping on the ground.

"We raise issues that relate to children in the state of Oklahoma," said the CEO of Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy, "We think this will help Oklahoma parents know how to handle that conversation and hopefully dispel some fears that Oklahoma kids might have."

The full discussion will be up on the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy website tomorrow morning.

Details on donating to help Ukrainian families are also included.
