Applications are now open for Oklahoma teachers to apply for grants that would pay for transportation on school field trips. Grants will be distributed to destinations dedicated to Black history and civil rights education centers in the state.

The Oklahoma History Center is in charge of allocating the grants. Funding is made possible following the passage of Senate Bill 1081 in 2021.

Teachers can apply for grants to cover transportation expenses to these specific destinations for kindergarten to 12th-grade classes. More than $100,000 will be distributed to destinations in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, including trips to the Greenwood Rising Museum, Greenwood Cultural Center and Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum.

Organizers are hopeful the grants can help schools get out of the classroom to enhance the educational experience.

“There are a lot of schools who may have funding issues,” said Sarah Dumas, director of education at the Oklahoma History Center. “By being able to provide transportation funding, we hope that a lot more students will be able to travel and experience these great and wonderful sites all across our state.”

Teachers can apply for the grant by Clicking Here.
