A family of six is heartbroken after their house burnt down over the weekend. One of their dogs was unable to escape as flames engulfed their home.
The family told News 9 they are still in shock and very emotional. They said losing all their belongings is one thing, but their dog is irreplaceable.
Walking through piles of burnt wood, bricks and furniture Heather Beers recalls the moment her family’s life changed forever.
“We lost everything, it’s unreal. Baby pictures that are irreplaceable, baby blankets, our kids' whole lives, everything that they know is gone,” she said.
Beers woke up in the middle of the night Saturday to find flames outside her bedroom window. She quickly woke up her fiancé and both of them tried to gather their family pets.
“All in the ceiling, it was like a movie. Just fire all over the living room,” she said.
The couple yelled for Minnie, their dog, who was still in the home.
“Maybe the smoke got to her it was a lot a lot of smoke. I don’t know if she ran to her box, to her safe space,” said Beers.
“You can see the chair, I threw it through the window, I did everything I could I was hollering for her, and it was too late,” said Jordan Scull.
While the fire department investigates the cause, the parents say they are just grateful the kids weren't home at the time.
“In a matter of seconds, we ran to the back fence and then the neighbor’s house. From running there and looking back the entire house was engulfed in flames,” she said.
The couple is leaning on one another for support as they look at what's left of a home that meant so much.
“We bought this place back in September and we worked really, really hard to get to this place where we wanted it to be for our kids and we just got there,” she said.
Their loved ones have put together a GoFundMe to help the family replace their belongings.
