A human skull is found northeast of Luther over the weekend. Investigators say the skull had a bullet hole in it. They are still working to identify the remains.
Deputies got the call Saturday at a property near North Harrah and Diagonal Road. The Deep Fork River is nearby.
"We sent some investigators and deputies out there," said Aaron Brilbeck, with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department. "They found it; they called the Medical Examiner's Office."
Investigators say the skull was found on a property owner's land. They believe it's not an ancient skull and say a bullet hole was found in the forehead.
They're still not sure where the skull came from.
"Which often times when it rains a lot, stuff will come and flow into this property," said Brilbeck. "We believe that may have happened with this skull; we believe that may not have been the area where the person was killed."
Investigators also say they didn't find any other remains near where the skull was found.
"It's difficult when you find remains in those conditions," Brilbeck said. "We don't know how long they've been there; we don't know when the approximate date of death is."
It's now up to the medical examiner to identify this person. Deputies are also looking into who else may be involved in this case.
If you have any other information or may have seen something out of the ordinary in that area, you're asked to call the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office.
