Oklahoma Lawmakers Respond To Texas School Shooting

A shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas has claimed the lives of 19 children and two adults.

It is the deadliest school shooting since Sandy Hook, the 2012 elementary school shooting that left 26 dead in Newtown, Connecticut. 20 children died in that mass shooting.

Lawmakers across the country and in Oklahoma are speaking out about this latest tragedy.

In Oklahoma, U.S. Sen. James Lankford shared his thoughts and prayers on social media.

“It is an unspeakable evil what happened in Uvalde, Texas today. What would drive a teenager to kill their grandmother and then shoot innocent children?” U.S. Sen. Lankford said.

U.S. Rep. Tom Cole says his heart is heavy for the state of Texas as they, "grapple with the shock of the despicable act of violence committed against young, innocent lives in Uvalde."

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Bice says her heart goes out to the people of Texas and that she, "Reached out to my colleague (U.S. Rep.) Tony Gonzales to offer any assistance or support that he may need.”

Oklahoma House Minority Leader Emily Virgin spoke on guns in the U.S. Tuesday and stated,

"We've been told that more guns will solve the problem, that good guys with guns will stop bad guys with guns. How many mass shootings have to occur before we stop believing this nonsense?"
