An Edmond couple is recovering in the hospital after an alleged lumber thief slammed into them while running from police.
It started like any other Sunday for Mickey and Linda Crittenden. They were on their way to church when a car slammed into them at the Sooner Rd. and Covell Rd. intersection.
"I had just seen them maybe an hour before," said Cari Crittenden, the couple's daughter. "Something happened to them in such a short period of time, so I was shocked, I was upset."
Edmond police say it started earlier that morning with a lumber theft from a construction site nearby.
Officers arriving on scene saying the suspect took off only to T-bone the Crittenden's after running a red light.
Their daughter said the force of the impact flipped the couple's car, leaving them hanging upside down by their seatbelts.
"I'm angry that it happened because it was senseless," said Cathy Crittenden, their other daughter. "I'm sad that they are hurting and there's nothing I can do to take that pain away."
Mickey suffered two fractures in his neck, 16 broken ribs, bruising in his lungs, and a broken right ankle.
Linda also suffered broken ribs, 6 broken vertebrae in her back, and multiple pelvic fractures.
"Watching my mom in pain and not being able to take it away from her and she desperately wants to stand up and she can't," said Crittenden.
Mickey is recovering well and though Linda has several surgeries ahead of her, the family say she's in good spirits.
Mickey and Linda are both still in the hospital, along with the suspect, who's in critical condition.
Police say they're still looking for a second man involved.
