The quick turnaround wasn’t enough to stop UCLA from handing OU its first loss of the 2022 Women’s College World Series.
The Bruins, who eliminated Florida Sunday afternoon, defeated the Sooners 7-3 Monday at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City.
UCLA’s victory forces a winner-take-all game against Oklahoma, which will take place later Monday afternoon.
Sooners pitcher Nicole May didn’t have her best stuff in the early game. UCLA tagged May for five runs on four hits in her first two innings of work.
Down 5-1 in the fourth inning, OU shortstop Grace Lyons smashed a Megan Faraimo offering deep for a two-run home run that pulled the Sooners within two runs.
Sooner slugger Jocelyn Alo came to the plate with the tying run on base and two outs in the fifth inning. However, UCLA reliever Holly Azevedo was able to get Alo to chase an offspeed pitch off the plate for an inning-ending strikeout.
