Oklahoma City police officials released body camera footage on Tuesday of an officer’s response to armed robbery suspect who allegedly shot at him. Police said the suspect was will on the run, but he left behind a clue for investigators.

The suspect has not been identified but the weapon he dropped during the chase could be the best piece of evidence crime scene investigators collected.

Air One and police red and blues kept residents near northwest 117th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue on edge late Saturday.

“It was roughly around I would say 11:30,” said Louis Strickland, witness. “Because Perry Mason was off. I always watch Perry Mason.”

This time a real-life investigation going on just outside Louis Strickland's front door.

“I saw all the police officers driving up and down the road,” said Strickland.

Police were searching for a suspect accused of robbing a citizen at gunpoint and shooting at Officer Bryant Hodge. Moments before the shooting, the robbery victim flagged down Hodge for help. The officer quickly spotted the suspect.

Officer: “Show me your hands! Westbound 117th from Penn walking away from me. He’s got his hand in his pocket, can’t see his right hand. Carrying a shirt, black male, white shoes, blue shirt, blue pants.”

The suspect picked up speed when he realized Hodge was following him. The suspect was not visible in the body camera footage but the shot he allegedly fired was heard in the video.

Officer: “Oh! Shots fired; shots fired!”

Hodge was not hit and did not fire back, but he continued to chase the alleged gunman.

The suspect disappeared into the night, only leaving a gun behind.

“So, it’s not too good to be wandering around I guess until they get him,” said Strickland.

Tips that could help the investigation can be left by calling the Crime Stoppers line at (405) 235-7300.
