Oklahoma City police released the name of the victim in the city’s latest shooting death. Officers found 39-year-old Michael Crawford with multiple gunshot injuries on Sunday just after 3 p.m. at an apartment complex near SW 44th Street and S. May Avenue. Police said Crawford was in the parking lot at the back of the complex.

Residents said on Monday Crawford was an unfamiliar face at the Mayridge South Apartments.

“Yesterday was the first time I ever seen him since I lived here,” said Samantha Brogdon, resident.

Samantha Brogdon said she passed the shooting victim in the apartment breezeway 30 to 45 minutes before residents reported hearing three gunshots.

“It was just ‘Hi’ and ‘Hi’,” said Brogdon. “He didn’t seem any type of way, like he was just doing his business or whatever.”

Brogdon said she saw the victim on the ground near two trucks bleeding in the lower part of his body from gunshot wounds.

“It was just sad,” said Brogdon. “It was a sad deal to see it.”

Officers taped off the area and Crawford was rushed to the hospital. Police said he was still alive but unconscious.

“The victim was transported to a local hospital where unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries,” said Sgt. Rob Robertson.

Investigators spent hours at the apartment complex gathering evidence and information from possible witnesses. More than 24 hours later, police officials said the suspected shooter and motive was unknown.

“Our information is still pretty limited at this point,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, Oklahoma City Police Department. “Still working through it, trying to obtain witness statements or anything we can, leading to the identity of a suspect.”

Witnesses or anyone with information who did not speak to investigators call the Oklahoma City Police Department’s Homicide Tip Line (405) 297-1200.
