Scissortail Elementary School is getting ready for its first school day on Thursday.
The project is near completion after being under construction since 2020.
Principal of Scissortail Elementary Jamila Crawford said they are fortunate to be fully staffed going into their first year.
"We have an amazing group of teachers here," Crawford said. "Half are brand new entry-level teachers and half are seasoned, so I think it's a good mix."
The new school will host 17 classrooms.
Crawford said the only room that will not be completed by the first day of school is the school gymnasium.
Staff have been working together to come up with a plan B until the room is finished.
"Our PE, music, guidance counselor and librarian are making up a plan right now for how children can have their special time since we can't utilize the gym.
The gym, when completed, will even double as a storm shelter for students and staff.
The school will also house a media center, and playgrounds for upper and lower grade levels as well.
The district built the facility, and Redbud Elementary as part of the bond issue passed in 2019.
