Two suspects are in custody after they were caught stealing mail from multiple Yukon mailboxes. A neighbor was driving down Piedmont Drive when he said he saw a group of porch pirates strike and took quick action.
William Collins and Amber Wilson were arrested by Oklahoma City Police in this case. They were booked into the Canadian County Jail.
The neighbor said he was driving down Piedmont Drive on his way from Piedmont to Yukon. He says a silver Jeep in front of him stopped quickly.
"It seemed really out of place and really abrupt," said the neighbor.
He says he had to quickly stop behind the car on the two lane road.
"I kind of waited and I watched two people really quickly run out. I could tell that wasn't their house," said the neighbor.
"Two ladies pile out and they grab packages out of the mailbox that we're stacked in front. They opened up the mailbox and stuffed as much stuff in their hands as they could and started running back to the vehicle. So, it was pretty obvious that they were scoping out the neighborhood to try to poach amazon or whatever packages were outside."
The neighbor called the police, took pictures of the car, and said he didn't want to leave until the police intervened, so he continued to follow the car.
"Stayed on the phone with those officers and that's when they pulled them over," said the neighbor.
"Some occupants inside that vehicle had stolen some mail from inside those mailboxes again were followed to an area location before a traffic stop was made," said Sgt. Dillion Quirk with Oklahoma City Police.
Quirk said that Yukon Police was originally called by that neighbor, but Oklahoma City Police was called in because the homes were in OKC.
There were three mailboxes that the suspects stole the mail from, all in a cluster at the end of a long driveway. Dan Pfeiffer, one of the victims, said he's thankful for that neighbor, because he said it may have been days before they even realized the mail was missing.
"Certainly, I want to say thank you to the person who took it upon themselves not only to see something happening but to pursue it, especially in today's climate, that's not necessarily something everybody would do in all situations," said Pfeiffer.
He also says he's thankful for the diligent actions of the police.
"They were doing everything they could, and this had their attention," said Pfeiffer.
