Some Union elementary school students got to ask questions of an astronaut who’s on the International Space Station on Tuesday.

Darnaby Elementary School students got the opportunity of a lifetime to live video chat with an astronaut who is up in the station right now. Live from space, Astronaut Jessica Watkins answered Darnaby students' questions.

Students could ask anything they wanted. Some asked about her favorite and least favorite foods in space, and how long a fidget spinner would spin in space if you get taller while in space. The video chat lasted about twenty minutes and was packed full of fun facts for the students to enjoy.

Fifth-grade teacher Suzanne Martin said getting this opportunity was a long process but they are grateful to have made such a cool memory happen for kids.

“To actually get to speak to someone who is tethering and floating around in the space station was incredible,” Martin said.

Student Rylynn Watkins said getting to talk to Jessica made her realize one day she could be an astronaut and go to space too.

“You get to do a lot of spacewalks and go into the International Space Station it’s just going to be so cool,” Watkins said.

The video call was only the beginning, students spent the whole day doing space-themed games, activities, and crafts as well.
