A hotly-contested Republican race for Oklahoma County’s district attorney has reached its end.
As of 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, Kevin Calvey garnered 60.7 percent of the vote over Gayland Gieger’s 39.3 percent. At this time, there are 100 percent of precincts reporting election results.
Calvey declared victory over Gieger during a speech earlier Tuesday evening. In a live interview with News 9 Tuesday night, Gieger said he called Calvey to concede.
The race has been under a microscope since Calvey called for a recount following June’s primary race. Calvey and Gieger were separated by fewer than 50 votes.

Within one week of Tuesday’s election date, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirmed it was looking into Kevin Calvey’s campaign after multiple allegations were made regarding a misuse of public funds.
Calvey questioned the timing of the investigation, who were alerted to the allegations by Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater.

Gieger is the county’s assistant district attorney.
Calvey is currently Oklahoma County’s commissioner for District 3.
Prater said in April 2021 that he would not seek reelection for the district attorney position. When he leaves office in January 2023, Prater will have served 16 years as Oklahoma County’s district attorney.
The Republican nominee will face Democratic nominee Vicki Behenna, who defeated Mark Myles back in June.
