A day after two Oklahoma County deputies were shot, one fatally, we’re learning more about the gunman’s frame of mind.

In a press conference Tuesday, Oklahoma City Police Chief Wade Gourley said Benjamin Plank planned on taking the lives of law enforcement.

Officials said Plank was armed with multiple guns despite a judge’s order to remove all weapons from his possession.

“He had several handguns, he had a rifle,” said Gourley.

During the press conference, law enforcement did not say if the weapons used on Monday were the same guns the judge had ordered to be surrendered.

“We were not able to verify a VPO at that time, the information they got was that the VPO at that point, something wasn't right with it,” said Gourley.

In official court documents, notes warn of weapons on the property. It also said Plank was prohibited from having any contact with his mother, the owner of the home where the shooting began.

“I can tell you with 100 percent confidence he was planning on killing any law enforcement that came to his house,” said Gourley.

Deputy Mark Johns was injured while trying to save Sgt. Bobby Swartz from the gunfire that came from the home.

“He grabs my hand and says sir, I couldn't save him, I’m sorry,” said Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson.

Plank was taken into custody in front of the north gate of Tinker Air Force Base.

He is being held without bond.
