High school football in Oklahoma kicks off on Thursday night with a massive showdown between the Owasso Rams and Bixby Spartans. The game will be played at a neutral site, which coaches say is exciting for both players and fans.

QuikTrip is sponsoring the big game and giving it the title "Battle of the 'Burbs." Both Owasso and Bixby have agreed to play at the University of Tulsa's H.A. Chapman Stadium.

QuikTrip will pay each district $21,000 for the sponsorship. Owasso will receive the payment this year and Bixby next year, according to the agreement.

The 2023 game will also be played at TU's stadium.

The Bixby Spartans storm into this one with a 49-game winning streak. It’s also the first game as members of 6A-I.

Meanwhile, the Owasso Rams have won two state championships since 2017. Both rosters have talent already committed to play in college.

"I think it’s early football so everybody’s a little bit anxious to see what’s going to happen this year, I expect a really good crowd," said Owasso coach Bill Blankenship.

Both coaches are excited for their teams to play in this environment. It also makes for a marquee match-up for fans.

"It allows our students to have this memory, allows the Tulsa community to have such a cool event that further builds the brand of Tulsa football," said Bixby coach Loren Montgomery.

The kickoff is set for 7:35 p.m. on Thursday night.
