September marks 10 years of concerts, festivals, and good times with friends and families at Guthrie Green.

The outdoor venue was the start of major growth in downtown Tulsa over the past decade.

Before he was ever playing for a crowd, rapper Steph Simon was pretending to play sold out shows at Guthrie Green.

"Just come out here at night, and rehearse myself and play my music on my phone, and just rehearse in the middle of the night like I was performing," he said.

He said Guthrie Green has been a crucial part of his career.

Playing shows in front of his friends and family and now, he is bringing other artists and shows to the venue as part of Hip Hop 918 and the Dreamland Festival.

"It's already a bucket list for so many artists to come out here, not to many venues where everybody is welcome to come hear music in the city," he said.

The space started as a trucking depot in Downtown, and today Tulsa Philanthropist George Kaiser's vision is now one of the most popular spots for events, concerts, and festivals.

Executive Director Julio Badin said it's been a catalyst for even more growth in the city.

"We've had wonderful things like the Woody Guthrie Center, and the Bob Dylan Center and then wonderful businesses all over the Tulsa Arts District," he said.

While it's been a great and successful ten years, Badin said they are just getting started, and he looks forward to even more success in the next decade.

"I think community is about being together, and to have a space like this we have the opportunity to unite and do things together," he said.

Guthrie Green will hold a Birthday Bash next Wednesday, September 7, from 11 to 2.
