Mass Graves Oversight Committee To Offer Update On DNA Analysis

The committee investigating the mass grave found at Tulsa's Oaklawn Cemetery will meet on Tuesday for the first time since June.

The committee will give an update on how DNA is being analyzed to determine if any of the remains found could be victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.

Intermountain Forensics has been performing genealogy and DNA analysis on the remains found in the mass grave.

Back in June, it was announced that there was no usable DNA from the 28 bone samples the scientists received. However, experts say two of the teeth provided enough DNA to move forward.

The committee has been asking anyone who believes they may be a descendant of a Tulsa Race Massacre victim to consider giving a DNA sample to help with the investigation.

Archaeologists plan to look for more remains at Oaklawn Cemetery as well as Newblock Park and a homeless encampment site along the Arkansas River, but a timeline for that has not yet been set.

Tuesday's meeting is set to get underway at 5 p.m.
