Vendors are setting up their booths just days ahead of the Tulsa State Fair.
Many of them are traveling into town after spending the last couple of weeks in Oklahoma City for that fair.
Inside the SageNet Center, vendors are rolling out tables and setting up displays. In less than two days, thousands are expected to pack the fairgrounds. James Smith has traveled from San Antonio for nearly three decades to take part in the Tulsa State Fair. For others, it is a new experience.
“This is our very first year to do the Tulsa State Fair and we are super excited,” said Tamara Simpson, owner of Simpson Shirt Company. She and her husband traveled up the turnpike from Edmond to be in town this week.
Organizers say the scene around the fairgrounds has really picked up in recent weeks.
“After Labor Day, we start building what we call a small city on our complex,” said Amanda Blair, Tulsa State Fair. “We have electricians involved, maintenance crews, just a lot of moving parts that go into this building process.”
Buildings open Thursday at 11 a.m. for the first day of the fair.
