The Broken Arrow Elks Lodge hosted a Veterans Day Parade on Saturday.

Parade organizers say they want veterans to feel loved and honored for their sacrifices made for our country.

Nema Janeway, who served in World War II under the Women's Army Corps, recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

"I wanted to serve, and I served in medical, taking care of the soldiers and I enjoyed it. Sometimes it got kind of hard, but it didn't matter," Janeway said.

Janeway was one of many veterans who rode in classic cars, motorcycles, and on floats during the parade. She says she never regretted serving her country and after the war, she continued to help by working at the pentagon.

“Of course, I was enlisted, and the nurses would be over over wards and we would be over one and I enjoyed the work," Janeway said.

Veterans Chairman Norman Tennison served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He says the City of Broken Arrow didn't have a Veterans' Day parade, so the Elks Lodge helped kickstart the idea for the city.

This year, there were over 55 entries in the parade. Tennison says he's glad to be a part of it because of the importance to pay tribute to those who served.

"It's very important to show tribute to the veterans and to celebrate the veterans on Veterans Day for the ones who suites up, sacrificed, and preserves our freedom," Janeway said.
