Sophomore Lamar Wilkerson buried his fifth 3-pointer of the night with four seconds left for the game winner and Sam Houston rallied down the stretch to stun Oklahoma 52-51 in a season opener Monday night.

Wilkerson sank 5 of 6 from 3-point range, was 6-for-10 shooting overall and came off the bench for a game-high 17 points. Wilkerson sank his third 3 with 3:33 left, his fourth with 2:52 to go and the game winner just before the horn. Oklahoma failed to get off a final shot attempt.

The Sooners led 43-29 when Milos Uzan made two foul shots with 9:44 remaining, however, the Sooners struggled down the stretch and made just 3 of 10-shot attempts to 7 of 10 for the Bearkats.

Qua Grant was the only Bearkats starter in double figures with 13 points.

Grant Sherfield scored 14 points and brothers Jacob and Tanner Groves added 11 apiece for Oklahoma. The Sooners committed 21 turnovers to the Bearkats’ 11.

Oklahoma entered having won all five of it previous meetings against the Bearkats while having won its last 19 season openers dating back to the 2003-04 season.

It was the first meeting between the two programs since Dec. 17, 1998 when Oklahoma won 75-44. The Sooners’ 31-point win that day was the smallest margin of victory for OU up to that point.
